A typical visit to the Tolerance Center for grades two through eight lasts four hours and the price of admission includes: Five to six rotations in which students (four to six per group) learn content and strategies by participating in facilitator-led small group discussions; lunch during which a college student discussion panel answers youths’ questions (encouraging aspiration to college); and an afternoon program including either: creating stick puppets and performing conflict resolution skits (for the younger kids) OR student-driven action plans addressing school, local or global issues (for the older kids). There is no cost for teachers, school counselors, other educators or parent chaperones to attend with their students. Also at no charge, teachers receive post-visit curriculum, lesson plans and activities to enhance and reinforce the content presented during their visit to Kidsbridge.

Kidsbridge is proud to state that the Kidsbridge Tolerance Center program is “evidence-based.” Using pre- and post-visit surveys coordinated and analyzed by TCNJ/The College of New Jersey’s Psychology professor Dr. James Graham and Psychology majors in his lab, visiting students show a statistically significant improvement in attitude in: 1) empathy, 2) stereotype knowledge, 3) aspiration to college, 4) moral reasoning, 5) religious diversity and 6) empowerment. This is after a single, four-hour session.

Kidsbridge also offers shorter programs that are developmentally appropriate for children in preschool, Kindergarten and first grade. When children visit Kidsbridge Town, they participate in exercises focusing on anti-bullying/anti-teasing, making others feel welcome, problem solving strategies, diversity appreciation and feeling valued as an individual.
