Kidsbridge and GLSEN Central NJ partner to offer Tolerance Museum Open House and afternoon of activities
honoring Martin Luther King, Jr.
Monday afternoon, 1- 4 pm, January 20

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life, vision and invaluable contributions to the nation, Kidsbridge Tolerance Museum is partnering with GLSEN to bring Dr. King’s ideals of acceptance and equality into the community for an afternoon of creative learning, community service and engaging, fun activities for children, teens & tweens!  Partnering with GLSEN, a community organization that teaches respect and acceptance for all people regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity, the program will run from 1- 4 on Martin Luther King Day, January 20, at the Kidsbridge Tolerance Museum, located in Forcina Hall at The College of New Jersey, 2000 Pennington Road, Ewing.

This free Open House will kick off No-Name Calling Week and will feature a variety of creative and thought- provoking activities, exhibits and collaborative projects, great for both elementary and middle school students. Also, please bring plastic containers for a community service project that will be used for an eco-friendly, school garden in the Spring.

Kidsbridge features the Tolerance Museum, located on the campus of The College of New Jersey, a hands-on interactive learning lab environment that encourages youth to explore issues of character education and diversity appreciation.  Through interactive kiosks, games, simulations, puppet shows and small group discussions, college students partner with elementary and middle school children—in order to create a comfortable environment for kids to share memories of bullying, exclusion and ridicule. As a collective whole, these children are challenged to contemplate solutions to end prejudice, peer pressure, discrimination, apathy, powerlessness, negative stereotypes and bullying.

The Museum is an active partnership between the non-profit Kidsbridge organization and the College, allowing the museum to draw from the expertise of faculty and their students from a variety of disciplines, including Childhood Education and Psychology. This unprecedented collaboration does not exist anywhere else in the country.
