In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life, vision and invaluable contributions to the nation, Kidsbridge Tolerance Museum is partnering with Ewing Senior & Community Center, Coalition for Peace Action and GLSEN to bring Dr. King’s ideals of acceptance and equality into the community for an afternoon of inspiration, creative learning, and engaging, fun activities for children, teens & tweens!  The program will run from 1- 4 on Martin Luther King Day, January 19, at the Kidsbridge Tolerance Museum, located in the Ewing Community Center at 999 Lower Ferry Road, Ewing.

This free Open House will kick off No-Name Calling Week and will feature a variety of creative and thought- provoking youth activities, exhibits and collaborative projects, and exciting speakers and panels.  At 1pm, there will be a discussion led by Carol Watchler of GLSEN Central NJ addressing respectful schools, as well as a 2pm panel on Social Justice and Prejudice Reduction, with local civil rights icon Edith Savage Jennings (a colleague of Martin Luther King, Jr.), Jonette Smart, President of Trenton NAACP and Irene Etkin Goldman, Board Chair of the regional Coalition for Peace Action. (Children must be accompanied by an adult.  School/youth groups of eight or more must register in advance by calling or email.)

Kidsbridge features the Tolerance Museum, located inside the Ewing Senior & Community Center, a hands-on interactive learning lab environment that encourages youth to explore issues of character education and diversity appreciation.  Through interactive kiosks, games, simulations, puppet shows and small group discussions, college students partner with elementary and middle school children in order to create a comfortable environment for kids to share memories of bullying, exclusion and ridicule.  As a collective whole, these children are challenged to contemplate solutions to identify and end prejudice, discrimination, negative stereotypes, peer pressure, apathy, and bullying.

The Kidsbridge Tolerance Museum is the only youth-oriented tolerance museum in the United States. Each year more than 2,500 students and 200 educators visit the Museum, learning strategies to better deal with the challenging character education and diversity appreciation issues facing today’s youth.
