KIDSBRIDGE@Home – Week 9

Day 41 –  Monday Movement
May 25: Feelings Freeze Dance

Ruby is upset. “I can’t believe I ruined the drawing Anita made for me. I just scooped out all the papers in my bookbag, scrunched them and tossed them out. I should have looked first!” Ruby was able to show how ashamed she felt when she and her family did a Feelings Freeze Dance later that day. Try it with your family and get your feelings out!

Day 42 – Tuneful Tuesday
May 26: Call & Response

Lalo learned a song at camp that is a kind of music called “Call and Response.” It can be done with just voices, voices and instruments, or just instruments – like our crows show us in their video “Caw and Response.” Find out more of Lalo’s story and Call and Response music here.

Day 43 – Creative Wednesday
May 27: Bloom Where You are Planted

Anita wanted to draw and there was no blank paper left.  “I don’t want to draw on lined paper!” she wailed. “It will look terrible!”  “Well,” said her mom, “You could cut up a cereal box, and draw on that.” Anita groaned. “Think of that mural you love so much,” said Mom. “Did the artist say, ‘I can’t use this wall. It’s not flat! The chimney messes it all up!’” Click here to learn about the mural and what Anita did next.

Day 44 – Discovery Thursday
May 28: Memory Places

Juan recently learned about Franco Magnani who grew up in Pontito, Italy. When he was grown up, he moved to California. Franco started having dreams about Pontito. He could see it very clearly in his “mind’s eye.” Franco began to paint Pontito, making what he called “memory paintings.”

Juan watched this video, where you can see how much Franco Magnani’s memory paintings look like real places in Pontito.

Day 45 – Outdoor Friday
May 29: Washington DC Zoo

Arco knows that the buffalo or bison is the national mammal for the United States. He likes the story of William Hornaday and his years of work to save the bison and other endangered animals. Hornaday began what later became today’s National Zoo in Washington, DC. Click here to learn more and take a virtual tour!
